ARTS PROGRAMS

The arts program at Main Street places emphasis on performing and creating original material. As an arts school, we:

  • Encourage students to develop their unique artistic voices
  • Strive to create well-rounded learners and artists – students integrate information from the core curriculum (Language Arts, Math, Science, and Social Studies) into their creative work.
  • Set high classroom expectations; students must maintain a C average to participate in full-production concerts or plays
  • Emphasize interdisciplinary collaborations in the classroom and during rehearsal

Dance Program
The dance department at Main Street School of Performing Arts is rooted in modern dance and ballet technique. Dance majors take daily technique classes and have the opportunity to perform in up to two full-production dance concerts per year. The department is designed to develop strong dance technicians and foster the artistic voices of its students.  Classes are level-appropriate and highly physical. Every year the department hosts several guest artists and residencies; some of past or current guest artists include Stuart Pimsler Dance and Theatre, Michele Rusinko, Kirill Bak, Noah Bremer, Galen Truer and Anthony Roberts. Please feel free to contact Betsy Maloney, Dance Instructor, if you have any questions regarding the dance program at Main Street.

Music Program
Like the students who attend MSSPA, the musical offerings are diverse and wide ranging.  We work to provide students with ensemble experience and individual attention which will help them to grow and develop their own unique musical style.  Ensembles include choir, instrumental ensemble, percussion ensemble, Jazz ensemble.  Students are highly encouraged to write and create music for these ensembles and for groups that develop while at Main Street.  While at Main Street, music students gain the tools and understanding to compose and notate their own music using notation and sequencing software.
